A massively parallel processor (MPP) configuration has RAM and disk resources for every processor- nothing is shared among the processors. These systems are scalable to hundreds or even thousands of processors, but application software must be specially designed to take advantage of the parallel processing power. Furthermore, message passing between processors can saturate the system interconnect if the parallel tasks are dependent on each other.
